Reflection on young adults' preparation for leaving children's homes for a natural social environment

Summary/Abstract: AIMS: To understand how young adults themselves, who are preparing to leave or have recently left children’s homes, interpret the significance of this preparation for their future independent life. THEORETICAL BACKGROUND: Participatory paradigm in social work. METHODS: Grounded theory was used for data analysis. RESULTS: In the situation of preparing young people for leaving care, there are mainly projects that are the most significant part of preparation regardless of the age and stage of young person’s transition, its other part are actors, where the most important role is played by educators, principals and children’s homes. OPEN ACCESS 12 FÓRUM SOCIÁLNÍ PRÁCE 1/2021 tion period, for young people with the experience of staying in an “apartment” this experience, money and financial literacy, own initiative, accommodation after leaving care. During the preparation period, he also encounters the rotation of social workers just before leaving care, ignorance of the adult curator, abrupt departure, conflict in the orphanage, failure to report that the preparation is starting and a dysfunctional family and no / communication about the preparation. IMPLICATIONS FOR SOCIAL WORK: Educate all young people about the adult curator, involve him earlier in the preparation process, thus enabling the creation of a report and trust between the young person and the adult curator. Involve more social workers in the preparation process, especially a social worker in an orphanage, or strengthen this component. Try to limit the rotation of social workers in the period of preparation for leaving.
