Summary/Abstract: The polyphonic vertical sound complexes (consonances, chords, aggregates, clusters, etc.), an integral part of general music ear training, are characterized by certain specifics and require different approaches for their absorption. The new principles of building vertical complexes in the 20th century lead to innovative approaches and techniques for complex perception of harmonic sets, based on interdisciplinary research, psychological, cognitive and intuitive-emotional characteristics. Some of them (synthetic, holistic or gestalt) rely on a mechanism of perception with a focus on the overall image of the perceived structure. Others (affective) rely on intuitive reflexes as a means of parallel assimilation of various phenomena. Although still experimental, these methods are gradually being established as a means of incorporating intuitive-emotional reactions into the general psychological-cognitive factors in ear training.
