Summary/Abstract: The Nike Literary Award is one of the first modern literary awards in Polish culture after 1989. As well as the other contemporary prizes which are patterned after the Nobel Prize the Nike is a cultural life institution that reaches the public throught the mass media. In order to recognize the significance of the media interest in the Nike the author researched the press coverage of the Nike during the period 1997–2005. The results of detailed analyses of the publications prove that not all aims of the Nike Award organizers were achieved. The Nike did not generate a serious discussion on literature or particular book in the press. Its presence in newspaper and magazines was rather a platform of promoting the books by publishing news about them or trivial articles on their authors. According to the opinion of the paper’s author the forms of Nike presence in the press discourse should be seen as some way representative to contemporary Polish cultural field as a whole.
