Summary/Abstract: Teoria Apropierii (2019), Bogdan Răileanu’s second novel, is established on a similar scenario to the previous text, Dinţii ascuţiţi ai binelui (2018), the mixing of certain contrasting backgrounds: the (re)union between a journalist (Robert Negru) and an Orthodox priest (Alexei Toma) based on a friendship that started in adolescence and on the childhood promise that they would revisit Venice together. Built on successive and substantial analepses (reminiscing the past of the two protagonists), Răileanu’s text follows, on one hand, „the dissection of a friendship”. On the other hand, Venice becomes a meeting space through which the two entities, the church (represented by the priest) and the secular world (the journalist and the artists encountered in Venice), can have a dialogue.
