WOODEN MOLD PRINTING TECHNIQUES IN OTTOMAN FABRIC ART

Summary/Abstract: Traditional printing art is the process of transferring and patterning the patterns by pressing or drawing by hand on the fabric with the help of tools such as wooden mold, brush and pencil. This art, also known as the art of writing, it has found wide use in the Ottoman Empire after the 16th century. In the empire, the mold printing technique applied to pattern flat fabrics; it has been used in many products such as caftan, pillow, quilt face, prayer rug, bundle, handkerchief, tableware, pashkir. The most beautiful examples are XVI, XVII, XVIII, and XIX. Printed fabrics encountered in centuries have taken their place among the preferred items of the palace with their superior qualities; the materials used, the fastness of the colors, the fineness and fluency in the patterns, are the best examples of the period. In this study, in the historical process, the art of printing within the scope of Ottoman fabric art will be discussed and printed fabric samples will be examined in terms of technical, pattern and color features.
