Summary/Abstract: Our study aims to analyse the Romanian and Spanish phraseological units, from a contrastive perspective, and is based on the Spanish translation of Frumoasele străine (Las bellas extranjeras) by Mircea Cărtărescu. More precisely, we are interested in the lexical-semantic equivalences of the verbal phraseological units used in the Romanian original in order to highlight the differences and similarities between Romanian and Spanish phraseology. After reviewing the corpus, we have identified two different situations. First, we will deal with the perfect equivalences, namely, the Romanian phraseological units are translated into Spanish by the equivalent phraseological units. On the other hand, we have also found cases of lack of correspondence, when there are differences between the original and the translated text: a phraseological unit is translated by a lexeme (verb) or other lexical structure or, conversely, a phraseological unit corresponds in the translation to a Romanian lexeme or structure. These similarities and differences, which are of interest for both Translation and Phraseology, are due not only to the personal options of the translator, but rather to the stylistic and use specificity of each language.
