Summary/Abstract: In Latin language, the terms candor,-ōris and candǐdus (3) are used to express the concept of "shining white", but also the idea of "purity, innocence, blamelessness". This dual connotation – chromatic as well as moral – can be identified in their Romance language reflexes: candoare and candid (Romanian); candeur and candide (French); candore and candido (Italian); candor and cándido (Spanish) etc. The literary works of the Romance space offer numerous such examples, the words for candor being well represented in the artistic vocabulary, which exploits stylistically the oscillation between the concrete, physical sense and its figurative counterpart.
