Summary/Abstract: Karagöz, one of the important genres of Turkish Public Theatre, has reached today through master-apprentice relationship. It is known that a decrease in face-to-face communication in cities has made it difficult to train new shadow play performers (Hayali). The state of the master-apprentice relationship in the modern age makes up the subject of the research. The study, in which drawbacks experienced by Karagöz shadow play performers who cannot find masters for training in rural areas; and methods to overcome these drawbacks are searched, aims to reveal the state of the people who are naturally gifted and interested in the field. Within the scope of the research, trying to explain the developmental processes of Karagöz masters starting from their childhood stage to education and business life, suggestions for new Karagöz artists were made depending on the sample of these people. In the study, Hayali (Karagöz shadow play performer) Kemal Atangür, producing and performing plays in his shop named Hacivat Köftecisi, and directly not having a master in terms of master-apprentice tradition, was interviewed by depth interview method. Besides, without breaking with tradition, suggestions on how to maintain the master-apprentice relationship and the tradition of Karagöz considering the training methods of shadow play artists in different countries were made.
