Summary/Abstract: The article concerns itself with the Music Archive of the Institute of Art Studies, and more specifically the section entitled “Music of the New Age”. It features the so called “mass produced commercial gramophone records”, the oldest of which date from the beginning of the 20th century. The text offered is an initial attempt at systemizing the records in such a way as to make the archival units helpful in the research activities of prospective users. What is at issue here is the endeavour to put forward a workable set of criteria by which the undertaken systematization could be implemented. After certain approaches to this task have been considered and discussed, the author proposes possible solutions on the basis of descriptions found on the gramophone records themselves.
