ENGLAND IN TURKEY'S FOREIGN SECURITY POLICY OF SECOND WORLD WAR

Summary/Abstract: The importance of Turkey's geopolitical and strategic position has increased with the start of the Second World War. Turkey's position has risen to a critical level for both allied and axis states. The Soviet Union from the east and south, Germany and Italy from the west, was a potential threat against Turkey. During the Second World War, Turkey's basic security policy was shaped by not going to war. Using the balances between the warring parties to achieve this goal, Turkey has also stated that when an attack comes from both sides for any reason, it will respond with all its strength and has been convincing. Turkey, which followed a fairly balanced security policy during the Second World War, had a successful diplomatic process despite its economic and political inadequacy. Although Turkey was pressured by England to enter the war, Turkey expressed that it was not ready militarily and economically and made some demands. Aware that these requests cannot be fulfilled immediately, the Turkish government gained time and did not hesitate to implement the same policy throughout the war. In this study, despite axis and allied war effort to put the government of Turkey, Turkey's successful foreign policy moves that follow are discussed. Turkey to protect its independence and territorial integrity, and take at least destruction of staying out of the war, it has pursued a foreign policy politics all possibilities in advance calculates and applies both to take its place as a respected member in the new world system to be established after the war.
