Summary/Abstract: The interpretation of poems by Sylvia Plath begins with a photo of allmale poets society with this famous American poetess conspicuously absent in it. Skilfully combining a biographical approach with close reading, this text presents us with combined facts from the life of the poetess and her poems that outline the fate of the writer in men’s literary history. Analysis begins with poems thematically rooted in everyday and personal life, continues on the irresistible tendency for cancelling oneself, and finishes with an antiheroic conquest of freedom. In doing so, Plath shows that recognition of the autobiographical means its destruction.
