Summary/Abstract: Populism is one of the greatest challenges of today not only in terms of culture, society and politics, but also religion. Whether it is Judaism, Christianity or Islam, each of these religions, with their symbols, images, metaphors and parables, are exposed to an involuntary and “unholy alliance” with populism, which uses religion to achieve its own goals through political manipulation, the intensification of anti-immigrant attitudes, the devaluation of other social groups, as well as anti-establishment and anti-pluralism. The aim of this article is therefore to show the relationship that exists between the populist “thin-core ideology” and the main monotheistic religions within the ideological appropriation of religion by populists, which each time has the same “point of contact,” i.e. the politicization of religion and the sacralization of politics.
