Summary/Abstract: An updated issue of the ISO/IEC 17025 standard was published in 2017, a standard specifying the technical requirements and management system for accredited laboratories. This system is to ensure competence of the laboratories to obtain credible research results and the ability to fulfill customer requirements. The objective of the paper is the analysis of the requirements of the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard with regard to the fulfillment of the customer focus principle and the shaping of relations with customers. These requirements have been compared to the requirements contained in the previous edition of the ISO/IEC 17025:2005 standard. Within the area of the customer focus, the amended standard emphasizes more, inter alia, the requirements regarding ensuring confidentiality, taking into consideration complaints, as well as introduces new requirements for an approach based on risk in order to minimize the risk of not fulfilling customer requirements.
