Summary/Abstract: The Roman state following the policy of decentralization of its public finances assigned to private legal entities the performance of public functions. Main subject of the article are the companies of the Roman publicans (societataes publicanorum) which are entrusted with administrative functions of collecting of the taxes and the public revenues in the Roman provinces and with the realization on behalf of the State of public works that it needs.
