Summary/Abstract: Immediately after the liberation of Federative Macedonia, besides the small number of Jews that managed to escape the deportation, began the process of returning of the surviving Jews to their homeland. Although their number was considerably lower, the surviving members continued the long historic tradition of formation of Jewish municipalities. On 20 December 1944, a group of Jews from Skopje that managed to survive the inconceivable terror of the Fascist occupier, met in order to consider their legal and political position. Six days later, on 26 December 1944, in Skopje at the first session of the MacedonianJewish National Liberation Board the Macedonian Jewish Religious Municipality was formed. One of the most sensitive questions with which were faced the Macedonian Jewish Religious Municipality was the question related to the destiny of Jews deported from Macedonia in March 1943. This question was regularly raised on municipality meetings or assemblies.
