Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to make a comparative analysis of civil society in Poland and Macedonia. The civil society sector operating in both countries has been studied especially from the environmental aspect. The author focuses on political, economic and social factors, as well as surrounding elements that influence the development of civil society. This article is an attempt to find answers to the questions: What is the current state of civil society in both countries? and What problems have NGOs working on transformation faced in the first two decades in both countries? The considerations are embedded within the theory of the modern division of the state into three sectors: state, private and civil.
