Summary/Abstract: In the review of the book „Literature Lost: Social Agendas and the Corruption of the Humanities“ by John M. Ellis, author observes the main topic of the book – failures of so called political readings such as feminist, race and class reading – in broader context where the narrative of political correctness is dominant and influential in all areas of culture, and also in the field of art criticism. Besides, the review offers an overview of domestic, bh. context in the light of ideological clashes in the field of humanities that are raging for decades now, noticing that domestic universities are somehow ‘late’, but nontheless, still suffer similar discord between political, ‘progressive’ and apolitical, text-oriented and often nacionalistic readings. Author guides us through main postulates of feminist and gender, race (ethnic and national) and also marxist and class approaches to literature studies, opposing it to almost forgotten practices of reading and investigating aesthetic qualities of text itself. The conclusion poses a question of the future of humanities and calls for reassessment of previous decisions about university curriculum, definition of vocation, shape of research and other aspects of humanities that is today in ‘alarming’ state.
