Summary/Abstract: This paper deals with the topic of translation accuracy by analyzing the Hungarian translations of two Serbian poems. The fundamental issues are: what is it that makes the translation worthy, and what kind of decisions does the translator make while taking into account the options and limits imposed by the language. Comparisons are made regarding how translators use the means of omission, addition and transposition, what is sacrificed for what, as well as how their creativity is manifested through the implementation of transference, choice of words, reflecting adequate formal features, and offering esthetic experience. By analyzing the translations, it becomes observable how the differing linguistic possibilities and, in many ways, the common cognitive experience amalgamate into a new linguistic-poetic quality.
