Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of social capital on motivation. When local and international literature is examined, few studies have been reached investigating the effect of social capital on motivation undirectly, whereas no other research examining this effect directly has been reached. Besides, when these researches on social capital and motivation are examined, it is seen that they are mainly applied to private-sector employees. For this reason, the public sector as a sample was selected, and research on academicians among the employees of universities was decided to explore. The universe of this study consists of the academician staff working at Kastamonu University in Kastamonu. A questionnaire is used as a data collection tool in the research. Data has been obtained from 278 academicians reached by convenience sampling method, but 269 available data has been obtained for analyses. SPSS 20 statistics program is used. At the end of the relevant analysis, it has been found that social capital affects motivation significantly and positively. It has been observed that the shared vision and stories dimension, which is one of subdimensions of social capital, effect motivation significantly and positively. It is also found that other dimensions of social capital do not have any effect on motivation.
