Summary/Abstract: The interest for the urban linguistic landscape, mainly centered on situations of societal bilingualism, has been notoriously extended nowadays to research on social environments which evidence the hegemonic presence of a single language. In this paper we have studied a linguistic landscape that also presents a predominance of only one language: that of the Argentine city of Bahía Blanca, in the dialectal area of Buenos Aires Spanish. We have dealt with the commercial names exhibited in the public space, attending particularly to those which show the use of other languages, in addition to Spanish. We have considered the languages which are used, and their distribution in relation to different commercial fields. We have verified that very few of them are chosen in a non-idiosyncratic way, and have analyzed the reasons for their preference.
