Summary/Abstract: The article is dedicated especially to the 80th anniversary of Prof. Dr Habil. Vasilka Radeva – founder and longtime editor-in-chief of the journal „Bulgarian Speech“, and examines the historical preconditions for the emergence of the expression „I wrote it simple for the simple Bulgarians“ from the Afterword of Paisius’ „Slavo-Bulgarian History“. Presented are the existing hypotheses in linguistics for the construction of Prof. L. Andreychin and Assoc. Prof. B. Georgiev. The text analyzes by way of examples several excerpts from various texts of damaskin authors such as Joseph Bradati, Nikephoros Rilski, John of Vratsa and Priest Puncho, that bring up the question of the simple, i.e. common and „bookless“ Bulgarian and his speech.
