Variation of Phraseological Units in Comparable Corpora of Speakers from Granada and Ecuador

Summary/Abstract: This article aims to provide examples of phraseological variability in comparable sociolinguistic corpora of speakers from Granada and Ecuador. On the one hand we analyse the frequencies of ten selected expressions whose presence in the corpus suggests the possibility of obtaining significant data; on the other hand, we study the distribution of phraseological and lexical variants of two phraseo-lexical variables. As independent variables we consider the level of education, age, sex, as well as the speech community. The original character of this study lies in the aim of presenting significant data, although the analysis reveals a set of difficulties which limit the validity of the study. Nevertheless, it has been possible to determine factors which, in a significant way, influence the occurrence of some of the phraseological units chosen for the analysis.
