Summary/Abstract: The need for change of the ideological discourse, the tension between conventionalism and affirmation of a new sensitivity are the factors that can be identified in the writings of Leonid Dimov, Virgil Mazilescu and Emil Brumaru, but also of Mircea Ivănescu and Târgovişte School, then of the „Star” and the „Albatros” movements in the ‘70. The aesthetics of contemporary poetry and also of the eighties poetry, which is claimed to postmodernism, creates a number of underground precursor following the tradition of parody, playfulness, irony. For Mircea Cărtărescu the new trend opens the door to a new literary history, which starts in present and reconfigures retrospectively the entire literary past. The great theoretical discovery of eighties is beeing aware of postmodernism, which opens a new aesthetic continent. A transgression has place from the Francophile world of costume, tie and classical music at the American jeans, long hair and rock music, defying the iron curtain imposed by the totalitarian regime. Analyzing the characteristics of a postmodernism avant la lettre in Romanian cultural space, poems are discovered at a very discrete and marginal writer, Mircea Ivănescu that astonish by their exemplarity. Descending from American poetry of Frank O’Hara, the biografist poem of Ivănescu is the generative nucleus of today’s poetry. The spontaneity and prosaism are inherited through direct contact with Anglo-Saxon literature (TS Eliot), American (Ezra Pound, Frank O’Hara), with German poetry (Rilke) or the French one. Mircea Ivănescu writes during an partial cultural isolation dictated by the totalitarian regime, which did not allow a better distribution of great literature of world. His work as a translator, and his projects developed as an editor of World Literature Publishing House opened new ways for a innovative literary direction that will influence the sensitivity of Romanian poets until today. Even in an ideologically suffocated cultural space, the seeds of literary innovation find fertile ground. The Romanian literary postmodernism has emerged not as a phenomenon of mimicry in relation to Anglo-American postmodernism, but as an organic development, as a necessary renewal of literary language and aesthetic vision.
