Summary/Abstract: Politics as Science and Destiny in Max Weber's Works. The author argues that Weber's reflections on politics include at least two dimensions. The first one is a description of structures of the political sphere that are characteristic for the modern society and the study how the elements of liberalism and democracy were gradually enforced in political life. It was the idea of legal and political equality of individuals that made the synthesis of liberalism and democracy possible. It allowed to join the idea of sovereignty of individual’s rights and the idea that the only source of legitimacy is the consent of majority. Second motive of Weber's ret1ections is associated with the problems of political status of Germany on given historical period. These two motives can not be separated from one another. Both of them - the constitution of the political sphere in modern society and the problem of political modernization were revealed by Weber as various manifestations of rationalization - the basic formative process of modern society.
