Summary/Abstract: The early Russian redaction of the Kormchaya is a compilation of the Serbian and the Old Slavic redactions. There are several stages in the history of the monument; each stage is associated with a certain region of the East Slavic territory. At all stages lexical changes were made in the text, first, by the compilers of the Russian Kormchaya, then by the scribes of protographs of textual groups and by the scribes of extant manuscripts. These changes were sometimes systemic, but more often the scribes simply replaced certain words. The main tendency in lexical variation is to use a well-known, more frequent and unmarked word. The scribe of the manuscript of the Voskresensk manuscript does not follow this trend.
