Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to discuss the specifics of the activities of the Duke of Cracow and Sandomierz, Bolesław V the Chaste towards monasteries. Although the ruler was generous towards the Church, it must be noticed that his generosity – espe-cially towards monasteries founded by the most powerful families - was a derivative of the political situation and the current position of these families in the power elite. The number of privileges for “family” convents was directly proportional to the importance of their founders in Bolesław’s state. The Duke’s donations became a political tool. It should be noted, however, that foundations of insignificant families in the 13th century or royal foun-dations did not experience a reduction in the number of privileges issued
