Summary/Abstract: The article deals with democratic corporatism from the standpoint of the developmental strategy of small states. Proceeding from Katzenstein's analysis of industrial policies and industrial relations in Austria and Switzerland, the importance of Inner (political) stability as a requisite for flexible international adjustment is stressed. Democratic corporatism is seen as a very important and useful lever of stability and consensus-building which enables a successful formulation and implementation of a broad-based developmental strategy.
