Summary/Abstract: The Liturgical Movement has for many years shaped the idea of a new form of worship (liturgy) in the world and Europe as well, and, thus, prepared foundations for the liturgical reforms of the Second Vatican Council. In the Czech lands, the Liturgical Movement became evident by the end of the 19th century, and its activities can be traced in contributions published in various professional periodicals and journals, mainly in the ČKD journal (Časopis katolického duchovenstva, Journal of Catholic Clergy) where contributions of prominent representatives of the Czech Liturgical Movement, such as Josef Kupka, Jan Kubíček, Karel Kašpar and Karel Reban, began to appear. In their activities, they followed the ideas of their predecessors, advocating their work on the example of St. Thomas Aquinas who defended the legitimacy of changes brought about by liturgical reforms in relation to changing time periods, as well as the cultural and historical development of the given site. These leaders of the Czech Liturgical Movement, several decades before the Second Vatican Council, wanted to see the fundamental truths of the faith presented in a new and more effective manner during the ritual celebration (worship) and to adapt these truths to the needs of their times.
