Summary/Abstract: The answer to the question of whether prostitution is a crime in the Republic of Bulgaria seems very unambiguous at first sight. There is no article in the Bulgarian Criminal Code that incriminates prostitution. However, the judicial acts of the Bulgarian courts are extremely controversial and multidirectional. According to Article 329 of the Criminal Code, any able-bodied person of full age who does not engage in community service for a long time and who receives non-labour income in an illegal or immoral manner, shall be punished by imprisonment of up to two years or by probation. This article is an attempt to answer the most common questions that arise in terms of the criminal aspects of prostitution in the Republic of Bulgaria.
