Summary/Abstract: To assert that any of Semitic language is the one that was spoken by the old Semites is faulty. According to our opinion we can discuss only which of contemporary known Semitic languages is the closest to the then proto-Semitic language form, and we can not point out any of them as the language that was used by the ancient Semites. In that sense, the scholars on the basis of the common characteristics of the Semitic languages have tried to form an idea about the proto-Semitic language and on the basis of it come to the conclusion which of contemporary Semitic languages is closest to it. They have noticed that Arabic more than any other language, has preserved the most of the common characteristics what approves it as a Semitic language with the most original tradition.
