Summary/Abstract: Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) has been studied in Bosnia and Herzegovina for centuries. Formerly there were special schools known as Buk'a Madrasahs and Darul-Hadith whose primary task was to study the exemplary life of the Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) through the relevant hadith classical works. Later, after the end of Ottoman rule in this region hadith has been taught as a compulsory subject in the educational institutions of the Islamic community. Today Hadith is a subject of study in madrasahs, at the University of Zenica and Bihać and the Faculty of Islamic Studies in Sarajevo. At the academic level hadith is studied in all three cycles of studies in a variety of forms and scope. The study of hadith was sought to be established in a competent and generally accepted literature of Ahli-Sunni origin that respects the needs of pupils and students and the demands of time. While the first criterion for centuries has consistently been held, the second criterion in certain historical periods was not respected which led to the need for the study of hadith in general.
