Summary/Abstract: Just as many other parts of Asia and Africa in the colonial period, the Arab-Islamic world was also interesting and appealing to conquer and exploit. In order to realize his intentions, the colonizer knew how to use the complex language situation which he encountered in the Arab world, managing to skillfully instrumentalize it in his search for the culprit for the Arab world's lagging behind. He did not hesitate to tag the mere form of Arabic language, which was protected and remained stable over a long time, as the major social problem and the underlying cause of stagnation, consciously trying thereby to distract from what really stood in the way of progress and prosperity of Arabs in order to keep the population in the noose of widespread illiteracy and thus cut off their connection with their history and their cultural heritage. Since the Arabic language was the medium for the revelation of the Holy Qur'an as Muslims' holy book, conscious actions for the purpose of suppressing literary Arabic language can be, without a second thought, characterized as a form of ideological struggle.
