Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the issue of understanding Islam in a secular and democratic society. Special attention has been paid to: the understanding of metanarratives and dominant concepts in presenting great theological ideas through a kind of competition between traditionalist and modern views, attempts by Muslim authors to make relevant the perception of Islam as a belief system that in no way infringes on the spiritual continuity of other religions, and the efforts of Western authors, who often reduce Islam to a geographical phenomenon and a religion that is in conflict with other religions, especially Christianity and Judaism. Theoretical and practical elements of theological pluralism and ethical values are presented through the transcendent unity of sources of religious truths. The paper identifies the problem of understanding and deconstructing Muslim literature and worldviews that are primarily inspired by local identity and have gained global religious importance, and by deconstructing negative and stereotypical views of Islam in a Western education system based on customary law or experience with other cultures.
