Summary/Abstract: This study is dedicated to the recovery of the lesser-known history of two royal statues: the statue of King Ferdinand I the Integrator from Silistra and the bust of Queen Mary of Balchik. Both sculptural works were commissioned by the local population of the two cities, during the periodwhen they were under the Romanian administration. After the loss of the Quadrilateral, in the autumn of 1940, the two statues, along with other worksof art, historical and archaeological, were repatriated, stopping in Călărași and, respectively, in Constanța. While the statue of King Ferdinand the Complete was melted by the communists at a date unknown until now, the bust of Queen Maria was deposited, along with other sculptures, in the cellars of Constanța City Hall and later in the cellar of the Ion Jalea Museum, being restored on the pedestal in November 2020. In the present study, by constantly consulting the press of the time and gathering information from various local and central archives, we managed to draw the hidden history of these two symbolic statues.
