Summary/Abstract: At the end of the 19th century, after the War of Independence and the reunification of Dobruja with Romania, the problem of building a canal between the Danube and the Black Sea was reiterated. It has now acquired a national character, presenting, from this date, another totally different framework and premises: the country's economic and political development. The projects of the Romanian specialists after 1878, who supported the construction of a canal on the Cernavodă-Constanța route, started from the revelation of the economic, social and strategic advantages. Only one French project, which belonged to A. Mathieu, was an exception. Until the outbreak of the First World War and during it, the preoccupations of the Romanian specialists towards the problem of designing a canal between Cernavoda and Constanța manifested themselves less frequently. Their attention was directed to projects of more urgent necessity, such as the bridge over the Danube, between Cernavoda and Fetești, the enlargement and modernization of the port of Constanța and others. However, personalities from Constanta also elaborated studies and articles, which supported the construction of a canal between Cernavoda and Constanta.reiterated
