Summary/Abstract: The study gives a picture of the contemporary independent theatre scene in Warsaw. On a representative sample of four independent theatres (Teatr Polonia, Klub komediowy, Teatr WARSawy, Komuna Warszawa), it illustrates the diversity of the operation and artistic orientation of theatres across an independent, non-institutionalised Warsaw theatre scene. On the basis of certain phenomena which have surfaced in selected theatres when it comes to their dramaturgy and internal organisation, in conclusion, the authoress marginally touches upon the similarities and differences between Polish (Warsaw) and Slovak independent theatre.
