Summary/Abstract: My article focuses on an essential trait of all living beings: their embeddedness in the world. Based on Heidegger’s lecture courses, Grundbegriffe der Metaphysik – Welt, Endlichkeit, Einsamkeit, in which Heidegger advances his own philosophy of biology, and Metaphysische Anfangsgründe der Logik im Ausgang von Leibniz I develop a notion of Drang (drive) as a metaphysical principle of life.
