Summary/Abstract: The article presents the first of its kind analysis of the treatise “Tablet” attributed to the Greek philosopher Cebes of Thebes and translated by Antiochus Cantemir from French into Russian. The first part of the article discusses the preserved manuscripts of this translation and identifies the sources that Cantemir built his translation upon. The author comes to the conclusion that Cantemir used the French translation made by Gilles Boileau and the Greek original’s edition of 1711. Then the author analyzes the specific features of Cantemir’s translation, comparing this text with Gilles Boileau’s French translation and the translation made by Grigoriy Poletika. It is concluded that the influence of the syntax of the French translation and its dialogicality is manifested in Cantemir’s translation.
