Summary/Abstract: Without being aware, we live in between realities: the existential reality, which most of us cannot describe, and the perceptual reality, modelled by the collective interpretation matrix. The perceptual reality that is delivered by those who hold the power – more or less legitimately ‒ at a given time, is influenced by two cognitive factors: expectations, emotions and group interests, on the one hand, and the perceptual image delivered by the power factor, on the other. The extent to which we manage to have a clear, real image of our existence, or a deformed one, is dependent on the way in which we manage to balance what we desire and what is conveyed to us. The methods, instruments, and techniques through which power defines our existential reality have become so much more complex, that they constitute academic research fields in their own. The world of today is dominated by perceptions and carefully crafted representations, by which collective opinions are easily prompted, manipulated, and directed.
