Summary/Abstract: Stress perception depends on culture we live. Collectivistic culture perception of stress differs from individualistic manner. People who live in societies which emphasise the meaning of group and family recognise stressors as those harming the commonwealth of community. On the contrary, the societies which are individually oriented perceive stressors as those which harm the wellbeing of individuals. The process of coping with stress depends on culture rules. This is expressed mostly by the variety of strategies used to work through the demands. People whose values are collectivistic search for prayer, being with others and try to endure the difficulties. Individuals oriented on themselves use strategies which focus on stressors and those which alleviate the individual cost of living in stress. However, there is no strong evidence that efficacy of coping with hardship may depend on culture orientation of individuals.
