Summary/Abstract: “Eternal Punishment” in Mattew 25:31-46 is a symmetrical concept for “eternal life”. Symmetry characterizes the entire compositional unit to which this pericope belongs. It is also the implementation of the model already present in Mark, but developed in Matthew. The model consists of three parts: a parable, a separator, and an allegorizing interpretation of the initial parable. In this context, the “eternal punishment” is the equivalent of rejecting of sensless girls from a possibility to participate in the wedding feast.
