Summary/Abstract: This paper is focused on the analysis of chronotopes in the artistic expression of the versatile music creator Spencer Krug, Moonface, who is very distinguished in rock music, more precisely in the indie rock genre. It centres around his third album entitled Julia with Blue Jeans On from 2013 and aims at determining the temporal and spatial lines present in the verses of the songs. The range of his performances is extremely wide and branched, and this paper tries to summarise poetic images that are seemingly completely imaginative and transposed through the media of piano and voice. The album is contemplative, organised into ten parts − ten songs, which are connected into one poetic unit. However, each song is presented as a seemingly separate imaginative space, in which verses correlate with other songs on the album. By carefully listening, we understand why they are organised in such a manner, and, in order to be as precise as possible in determining the temporal lines that create this network of lyrical prints, we must see the hierarchical conditionality of the order of the songs on the album. Therefore, the work refers to biographical sketches from the author’s life. This case study is used to define questions and hypotheses – why we have to analyse works of similar authors. In this particular case, the method used is the approach of the literary theorist Mikhail Mikhailovich Bakhtin, the concept of chronotope. Relying on Bakhtin’s definition of spatial and temporal lines, this paper maps the temporal-spatial determinants in the lyrics of songs, intended for vocal performance, and shows how lyrics, in the same way as poems, can become chronotopic. For Bakhtin, the most important issue is the category of time, which, in conjunction with the category of space, creates the plot of each literary work. The term chronotope refers to characters that become chronotopic, more precisely, which determines the identity of the character and its division. Moonface’s work and its textual narratives have proven to be an excellent example of an analysis that combines high and popular culture. The value of such creativity lies in the performative greatness of expressive plurality and the richness of linguistic diversity that Moonface skillfully uses. The analysis of syntagmatic and paradigmatic relations in sentences shows a high degree of lyrical chronotopes, which, with their authenticity, indicate the importance of studying such authors and prove why it is important for poetry in a broader sense (lyrics) to become a subject of more engaged academic study.
