Summary/Abstract: The importance of health behavior of young people dealing with sports, who can influence the health of minors through their health-conscious lifestyles is huge. It is presumed that the health behavior of university students who are in contact with sports on a daily basis is different from the population of a similar age. In our study, we looked at the lifestyle of sport major students through questionnaire surveys to assess their general health and health behaviors. We focused specifically on harmful passions and sports habits. We were interested in the role sport plays in the lives of university students and whether they have any harmful passions or not. We used a paper-based, self-completed questionnaire. The study was done in November 2019 at the University of Nyíregyháza to measure the health behavior of 114 students with sports studies major (33.3% female and 66.7% male, mean age: 23.15 years). According to the results, nearly two thirds of the students consider their health condition as good or very good. Three quarters of the respondents exercise daily. 43% of students have never smoked, but one fifth of them smoke cigarettes on a daily basis. Almost two-thirds of students consume alcohol, but only occasionally. The consumption rate of caffeine (energy drinks, coffee) is high. One in five college students has already tried some kind of drug, most often marijuana. Students were asked how much can their do for their health. Most responses were either much, or very much. We had similar results while comparing the data of the examined students with the results of previous research among university students. It would be important to create a health awareness project among the students of this field to raise awareness of the health hazards of harmful addictions, and the possibilities to quit. As the majority of legal drugs were used by the pupils between the age of 15 and 18, the importance of raising health awareness of professionals who come in contact with young people of this age group is unquestionable. In the future, we would like to extend our study to drinks containing caffeine, eating habits, and free time activities.
