Summary/Abstract: The article presents multi-functional characteristics of 35 periphrasesof artefact names excerpted from the poetry of Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska. Most of them were originally created by Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska. The poetess used the periphrases with different coexistingfunctions (poetical, expressive and informative). They are stylistic ornaments(e.g. flowers of municipal springs ‘balloons’), as well as they introduceadditional information (apartment made of reinforced concrete ‘shelter’)emphasizing the most specific feature, and sometimes they contain an expressiveload which does not occur in single word synonyms (miracle on a cord ‘receiver(of a telephone)’).
