Maria Kuncewiczowa on literature lectures. A linguistic analysis of the writer's memories

Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the parts of Maria Kuncewiczowa’s autobiographicalworks on Polish literature lectures which the writer led at the Universityof Chicago in 1963-1971. They show to the readers various emotions that werecaused by the proposal of the work as a lacturer, writer's effort in preparinglectures and students and the specifics of the classes that she run. Particularattention was paid to the linguistic elements through which the authorreconstructs the memory of specific images from this period.Memoirs are written in a seemingly simple, free, natural language ofmodern intelligence ofher times. Attentive look at the research material showsthat the writer uses original wording, ornate metaphor and the language full ofexpressive means to skillfully introduce the author's narrative.
