Summary/Abstract: The present paper presents the results of an author's research on the influence of social information environment on the speech development and communication skills of five-to-seven-year-old children. It outlines the aspects of the impact of virtual space created through digital information technologies and analyses their effects on children's speech development. Reasons are given for a discussion on the possibilities for overcoming the communication deficits provoked by the excessive use of electronic media.
