Romanian Military Archives during the Interwar Period

Summary/Abstract: In the spring of 1918, the leadership of Romanian Army decided to set up a Historical Office whose task was to elaborate a large monograph to describe in detail the battles of the Romanian Army in First World War. Due to the complexity of this task, in 1920 the office was transformed into a section, which, in January 1928, became the Historical Service of the Romanian General Staff. This study describes the activity of these structures, ranging from the difficulties inherent of the pioneering period to the remarkable achievements in the field of military historiography and archiving in the years leading up to World War II.
