Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to consider the role of military during crisis. The armed forces play an important role in crisis management, especially those of large scale because of their special expertise, ability and resources. Controversy over the use of military exists; however, it is necessary to consider their best integration into the crisis management cycle and to what extent the military model is appropriate. The effective integration of military into the crisis management matrix will depend on finding the right balance between community involvement and philosophy of crisis management and military culture. This paper discusses issues such as military pattern of command and control, constraints on the use of military in crisis management process and a critical assessment of military approaches in crisis management and potential weaknesses. The conclusion is that the armed forces can be important in crisis management.
