Summary/Abstract: The ancient euchology of the Church of Rome is often called the source of lex credendi. The methodological foundation supplied by the famous saying of Prosper of Aquitaine legem credendi lex statuat supplicandi, gives us a support for investigations about the semantic and liturgical content of the prayers of the Church. It also enables us to expend their meaning and create some theological statements of more universal character. The author of the study proposes an examination - both liturgical and theological - of the expression filii promissionispresent in two ancient roman sacramentaries: Veronense and Gelasianum. The expression filii promissionisinside the examined euchology seems to indicate the appropriation of the typically Old Testament term by the new children of God. Since God has founded the new alliance in Christ, the expression means, in a figurative manner, the entry of new members into the family of Abraham, in order to inherit the blessing given by God to his descendants. The text is a reworking of some passages of the author's doctoral thesis, in which the theme of divine promise was part of a larger unit regarding the theme of the divine sonship.
