Summary/Abstract: The article presents Henri Bergson’s philosophy as an important source of inspiration for the early avant-garde. The main goal is to show that he influenced not only literature (Marcel Proust, Bloomsbury Group) but also visual arts, and among them not only Futurism but also Cubism, Expressionism, Dada, and Surrealism. It will be demonstrated through a discussion of selected concepts from Bergson’s philosophy, such as intuition, duration, evolution, and the comic.
